Meet Anita Afua
Owner and Lead MakeupArtist
I’m Anita, the founder of Afua Artistry, and I’ve always believed in the transformative power of beauty. My journey into the world of bridal makeup began during a time of personal change. As a new mother, I struggled with rediscovering myself, and it was through makeup that I found a way to reconnect with my confidence and self-love.
The spark for my passion in bridal beauty ignited on my own wedding day. I’ve always adored the magic of weddings—the feeling of being pampered, slipping into your dress, and seeing yourself as the best version of you. That moment felt like a real-life fairy tale, and I knew I wanted to give other brides the same experience—empowered, radiant, and beautiful.
My middle name "Afua," a Ghanaian name symbolizing resilience and strength, holds a special place in my heart. It represents the mission behind my work: to empower every bride to embrace her worth and feel iconic on her wedding day. Our motto is "Iconic Beauty for the Bride Who Knows Her Worth," because every bride deserves to feel as confident, beautiful, and strong as she truly is.

Being a woman of color, Afua understands the fears that revolve around color matching, beauty standards, racism and colorism in the beauty industry; hence, why she is keen to create an environment where women with diverse skin tones and hair textures feel welcomed and celebrated.
-
On your wedding day, hairstylists and makeup artists are the first vendors you will encounter. Facilitating an experience that exudes peace, joy and confidence is the ultimate goal. We want you to sit back, relax and get pampered while having fun.
-
Every client is treated with respect from our first encounter leading up to your glam session being completed. Afua prides in cultural sensitivity and understands that each client is unique which is why our approach is individualized. While every client ultimately wants to feel beautiful at the end of the glam session, every woman is unique. Therefore, Afua’s approach may differ from one client to the other.

Afua Artistry provides a luxury bridal hair and makeup experience for the everyday bride who loves extravagance across Greater Toronto Area, Simcoe County and beyond. On a day that does not come by every so often, we believe you deserve the celebrity treatment. Because every bride deserves to be celebrated regardless of skin tone and hair texture, diversity is a key component. We strive to ensure that every bride feels welcome through cultural sensitivity in our approach for you to be at ease and confident on your special day. Let’s get you right before you walk down the aisle to becoming Mrs.

Interior decorating
If I wasn’t a nurse or a makeup artist I would probably be an interior designer! I love everything about homes whether it’s about decorating, renovating, staging and more.
I used to spend hours watching HGTV, day dreaming about how I would decorate or renovate my house. Now that we own a house, I can spend hours on Pinterest searching for inspo on the next item I will purchase!
OTHER INTERESTS
Music
There are two kinds of people when it comes to listening to music: the ones who listen to the lyrics and the ones who listen to the rhythm, the melody of a song (this is me!) As a former musician, the determining factor of whether I like a song or not is how I feel when I listen to a song and to be quite frank, I don’t really take in the lyrics until I’m tired of the song I’ve been hitting replay for two weeks lol.
Most people have a specific genre of music they like to listen, but I can literally listen to anything depending on my mood (okay, except for heavy metal). I would say that my go to type of music is Afrobeats, R&B and Hip Hop. AFROBEATS all the way when working out.
Fun Fact:
I used to play the piano, acoustic guitar and saxophone alto. Piano was my main instrument and I would play it at church.
Favourite Seasons
Fall and Spring—I love cozy season where I can rock my sweaters and trench coats. I own more sweaters than I own clothes for summer. Sweaters and jackets are just perfect add ons to your outfits.
